Wedding Cake Ordering Advice

You want everything to be just right for your special day – so here are some tips about ordering a Wedding Cake from Julie’s Creative Cakes.

How Big?

The size of cake normally depends on the amount of people it’s going to feed. I can help you estimate this if you know how many people.

However, some brides will want the big tall impressive cakes, and for that reason there are things called ‘ dummy ‘ cakes. They look when covered exactly like a real cake but are much less expensive. I can tell you all about this if you want the skyscraper without the budget going through the roof!

Book your cake as one of your first planning steps: the earlier the better!

How Long In Advance To Order?

As much notice as possible is needed when ordering a wedding cake.

This is especially important if it involves a fruit cake. Fruit cakes benefit from a maturing period normally of three months. [*see below]

A general rule is the longer the better even if it is just a matter of securing the date. If you book the date before others do, I can be 100% sure you will have my full time on the wedding day. That’s important because if the wedding cake is to be delivered and set up at the wedding venue, then there may be a charge depending on the area and size of cake.

But What Is The Fastest / Shortest Notice?

I have made wedding cakes with as little as two weeks notice when a fruit cake isn’t involved and only a single tier.

*I will at most times have a selection of fruit cakes maturing so that I can help customers at short notice, if for example they may have been let down by someone (which has happened in the past)
